Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of emotion-oriented couple therapy training on emotional self-disclosure and marital commitment of couples referring to counseling centers.
Methodology: The method of the present study was other than basic research in terms of purpose, quantitative research in terms of method and experimental research in terms of data collection. In this study, the study population consisted of all counseling clinics of the Psychological System Organization of Region 5 of Tehran in the period of May and June 2018, the number of which was about 180 people. Sampling method the present study was a stepwise cluster sampling method. The instruments of the present study were emotion-focused couple therapy training package and two questionnaires of emotional self-disclosure Waring, et al (1998) and Marital Commitment Adams, Joens (1997). To analyze the hypotheses, multivariate analysis of covariance and univariate analysis of covariance were used to determine the differences between the groups.
Results: The findings showed that the post-test scores of marital commitment in the experimental and control groups were significantly different by eliminating the effect of pre-test scores and the effect of emotion-oriented couple therapy training on increasing marital commitment was very high. The results also showed that the difference between the adjusted means of emotional self-disclosure between the experimental and control groups in the post-test was statistically significant. The difference between the scores of the experimental and control groups or the effect of the educational method was also high and significant
